Polish musicians at the Internal Compass Summer Jazz Festival 2023 in Mitzpe Ramon

The 8th annual Internal Compass Summer Jazz Festival is a celebrationspanning across  four consecutive days in the Negev town of Mitzpe Ramon, consisting of cutting edge and creative jazz music. This year it will be dedicated to a collaboration between Israeli and Polish artists, and will be part of the JAZZ POPOLSKU „Around the world” project.

It will be recorded by a Polish film crew from JAZZ PO POLSKU Foundation to create a documentary which will include interviews, history, concerts, and footage from behind the scenes of the whole event. „Everyone is invited to Mitzpe Ramon on the last weekend of the summer, to experience the developing culture of the town”, says the manager of the „Matanel” Program for Creative Music in Mitzpe Ramon and the Artistic Director of the festival, Ehud Ettun.

„We would like to make a documentary, in which music will play an important part. But first of all it will be about friendship and this long-term relation between Polish and Israeli musicians which has lasted here in Mitzpe Ramon for almost 10 years. This is an excellent example of collaboration and defines what the jazz music is all about”, says Jakub Krzeszowski, JAZZ PO POLSKU Founder. The whole film will be directed by Maciej Głowiński, an independent documentary filmmaker and member of the Foundation.

The opening concert of the festival will be the Album Release show of an Israeli saxophonist and composer, David Alfandary, ‚Spring’. This show will be played at the Mitzpe Ramon Cultural Center – where musicians are surrounded by the audience – with 360 degrees seating. Other artists include Lihi Haruvi, Daniel Schwarzwald, Anat Cohen, Adam Zagórski & Ehud Ettun.

On the second day of the festival there is a one-of-a-kind sunset show “The Vibrations Above the Crater” in the panoramic hall facing the Ramon crater at the Makhtesh Ramon Visitors Center, led by the Polish guitarist Rafał Sarnecki – in collaboration with Israel Nature and Parks Authority’.

The festival is a unique cultural event in the Israeli landscape suitable for every age and every person who has music in their heart, and it embodies the cultural diversity that is developing all over the country. For those who come to the festival an exciting and routine-breaking musical experience is guaranteed.

JAZZ PO POLSKU „Around the World” project has taken the form of an international concert tour. As part of it, leading Polish jazz musicians from the younger generation will give over 100 concerts on 4 continents, and among others in Israel. The project kicked-off in May and will last three years. It is inspired by the achievements of the Polish traveler – Paweł Edmund Strzelecki, who was the first Pole to circumnavigate the World.
