Lemańczyk/Golicki/Sarnecki Trio on JAZZ PO POLSKU tour in Asia

Lemańczyk/Golicki /Sarnecki Trio are going on a tour in Asia at the turn of April and May. The band will be performing in China and Japan, while at the same time promoting their debut album „NYC Sessions”, recorded with a guest appearance of the legendary guitarist – Mike Stern. The concert tour will last from April 23 until May 17 and is organized as part of the JAZZ PO POLSKU „Around the World/Destination Asia” Project.

The formation, comprising of Piotr Lemańczyk (bass), Adam Golicki (drums) and Rafał Sarnecki (guitar), will launch the concert tour on April 23 in Beijing and 24 with live shows in the Lincoln Center in Shanghai. Then, they will perform at the JZ Club in Hangzhou, Jazz&Cottage in Hefei and RealLive and Books in Xiamen. The following days will see them visit Nanning, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xi’an and Beijing. May 12-17 will see the Trio play in Japan, where the Polish musicians will take part in the Festival of Polish Culture in Tokyo and club shows in Ena, Kobe and Nagoya. 

Lemańczyk/Golicki/Sarnecki Trio will be promoting the „NYC Sessions” album, recorded with a guest appearance of Mike and Leni Stern. One may describe their music as mainstream jazz, often drawing inspiration from rock expression, refined harmony and beautiful melody lines. The sound culture and the whole mood scale give the music it individual trait and contribute to its uniqueness. The band was formed in 2023 and has since collaborated with such stars as Randy Brecker, Mike Stern and Grażyna Auguścik, with whom they have performed at a dozen or more live shows in Poland and in the USA. Their debut album – „NYC Sessions” – as the name suggests, was recorded in New York. The material was created at Spin Studios in 2023 and engineered by the legendary Roy Hendrickson – mostly known for his work with artists like B.B. King and Pat Metheny.

The JAZZ PO POLSKU „Around the World/Station: Asia” Project is organized by the JAZZ PO POLSKU Foundation and co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage within the “Promotion” project. The Project is partneres are: Polish Institute in Beijing and Tokio, Consulate General of Poland in Guangzhou and Shanghai. Logistic partner of the Project is the Polish Air Lines (LOT).

The JAZZ PO POLSKU „Around the World” Project launched in May 2023 and has taken a form of an international concert tour. It is inspired by the feats of a Polish traveler, Paweł Edmund Strzelecki, who was the first Pole to circumnavigate the World in the 1800s. The Project has so far organized more than 170 events in 21 countries and on 3 continents. This year’s edition is focused on Asia and will be the summary of a decade-long presence of Polish jazz musicians within the JAZZ PO POLSKU Project in Asia.

The JAZZ PO POLSKU Foundation is a non-governmental organization presenting the wide spectrum of skills of Polish artists from the younger generation. It helps in establishing international cultural collaboration and integrates artistic environments from various countries. It strives to refresh and reinforce the image of Polish jazz music in the consciousness of the foreign audience. Since 2012 the JAZZ PO POLSKU Project has organized over 500 events in 25 countries. These events involved over 200 musicians. The organized projects have also included performances of Polish and foreign artists here in Poland.

Rafał Sarnecki – Rafał Sarnecki – guitarist, composer, arranger from Warsaw, Poland. In 2005 he left his hometown to study jazz in New York where he spent most of his career. Living in NY he was involved in a variety of New York based groups including the Lucas Pino No-Net Nonet (2009-2019) which had a monthly residency at the famous Smalls Jazz Club. As a leader of his own projects he organized 15 tours in Asia. He has also performed in North and South Americas and most European countries. Currently he is living in Warsaw. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Music in Warsaw and the Music Academyin Łódź . Rafal has recorded five CDs as a leader. Three of them: Songs From a New Place (2008), Cat’s Dream (2014) and A View From The Treetop (2022) were nominated for the Fryderyk award, the Polish equivalent of a Grammy. The Madman Rambles Again (2011, Fresh Sound) was selected as among the best jazz albums of the year by Hi – Fi magazine and All About Jazz.

Piotr Lemańczyk – the backbone of the trio, provides the warm, resonant tones of the electric bass that underpin the group’s sound. His impeccable sense of timing and deep understanding of jazz harmony set the foundation for each piece. Piotr has performed and recorded with such prominent artists as: Walter Smith III, Jerry Bergonzi, Seamus Blake, Dave Kikoski, Tim Hagans, Brian Melvin, Gary Novak, Avishai Cohen (trumpet player) and Soweto Kinch. He has recorded six original albums which have received excellent reviews in such magazines as DownbeatJazztimes, and Jazz Forum. Besides his work as a bandleader he is also a member of many leading Polish jazz groups and the only European in the American group called Beatlejazz.

Adam Golicki is currently one of the most in demand jazz drummers in Poland. His impeccable sense of rhythm and impeccable technique lay the groundwork for the trio’s intricate compositions and complex time signatures. He has performed and recorded with such artists as Mike Stern, Urszula Dudziak, Kuba Stankiewicz, Maciej Sikala, Grzegorz Nagorski. He is also a member of the Confusion Project – a piano trio which tours world wide on a regular basis. As a bandleader he has released three albums. His most recent record Reflections was released in 2021 by Day Music. The album has received critical acclaim and garnered a dedicated following.
