JAZZ PO POLSKU FESTIVAL IN OCTOBER AT JASSMINE

The first edition of the JAZZ PO POLSKU Festival will take place in Warsaw on October 20 and 27. Live shows and related events will be held at JASSMINE club. This year’s edition will be focused on Polish and Indian artists with freedom as the main motif, since it is inseparably connected to the idea of jazz music.

The JAZZ PO POLSKU Festival is a new cyclical event on the music map of Warsaw. This year it will be held on October 20 and 27 at the Jassmine club. The concert hall at Wilcza 73 will host concerts, workshops and film screenings. The Warsaw public will mostly see Polish artists, but there will also be foreign guests. This time from India.

Day 1 of the festival will take place on Sunday, October 20. It will include: Piotr Damasiewicz & Power of the Horns Ensemble – one of the most influential Polish avantgarde jazz big-bands, founded by Piotr Damasiewicz (trumpet); Aleksandra Kryńska Quintet a debuting band founded by the violinist – Aleksandra Kryńska; and Light Star Guiding, a free jazz-trance squad, which includes a British sax player, Ray Dickaty, known from the rock band – Spiritualized. The evening will be opened with a screening of films recorded during the JAZZ PO POLSKU concert tours around the world, directed by Maciej Głowiński.

Day 2 of the festival is planned for October 27. At 6 PM the musicians from India – Pranshu Chatur Lal (tabla) and Sumanth Manjunath (violin) will be conducting “Rhythm Raga” workshops. The musicians will also perform in a duet with an original program blending Indian music with European traditions and be a part of JAZZ PO POLSKU ENSEMBLE – a project designed exclusively for this occasion by Kuba Wójcik (guitarist, composer), with the help of Andrzej Święs (double bass) and Krzysztof Szmańda (drums). The evening will also see members of the young scene – Paweł Krawiec Trio, the finalists of the 2023 international Jazz Juniors competition.

„The festival’s main motif is freedom, which is inseparably connected to the idea of jazz music and constitutes the foundation for our values. With this festival we wish to promote original music of Polish performers, as well as establish collaboration between Polish and foreign artists. This time it is artists from New Delhi whom you’ve had a chance to meet during the Spring concert tour in India within the “Around the World” project. Together with the Polish artists they will perform at a special premiere live show. The festival aims not only to promote the Polish jazz music, but also to build bridges between cultures and promote the widely considered international collaboration. It is also a sort of return to our roots – perhaps few people remember about this, but the first JAZZ PO POLSKU projects were presented in the form of festivals at some huge events in Denmark and Germany, like Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2012, JazzFest Berlin 2013 and twice at Jazzmeile Thüringen 2014 and 2015” – says Jakub Krzeszowski, founder of JAZZ PO POLSKU.

The JAZZ PO POLSKU Festival is organized by the JAZZ PO POLSKU Foundation and is co-financed by the “Music” Programme of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, operated by the National Institute of Music and Dance. Jassmine club is the festival’s partner. The event is carried out under an honorary patronage of the President of the Capital City of Warsaw. Media patron: „Trójka” Polish Radio III.
