Mateusz Gawęda Trio will perform on a JAZZ PO POLSKU concert tour in China and Japan. The band consists of Mateusz Gawęda (piano), Alan Wykpisz (double bass) and Grzegorz Pałka (drums), and will play 7 concerts in Tokyo, Yokohama (Japan) and Shanghai, Shenzhen (China). They will perform in prestigious locations, including Pit Inn Club and Tsutsuji Hall Concert Hall in Tokyo (15-17 June), as well as twice in Blue Note, Shanghai (21-22 June) and twice in Lavo, Shenzhen (23-24 June). The artists will also conduct special workshops for students on June 25 in DMAC, Shenzhen. The subject of meetings with local jazz adepts will be the issue of „the art of improvisation”.

Mateusz Gawęda Trio was formed in 2014 and it performs its original program consisting of the band’s leader’s compositions, inspired by all musical genres, mainly jazz from the 1960s, European music of the 20th century and contemporary music. The words that best describe the band’s music are fresh, mature, emotional, fun and dark.

During the tour in China and Japan, the group will perform their original repertoire, which includes songs from two studio albums: „Falstart” (2018) and „Overnight Tales” (2016). The band will also promote their first live album in their career, recorded at the end of January 2023 as part of the „Warsaw Live Sessions” project at the Jassmine club in Warsaw. The album will be released on European and Asian streaming platforms early June this year. The trio also prepared a special piece for audiences in China and Japan, Fryderyk Chopin’s „Prelude in E Minor”.

Mateusz Gawęda Trio’s concerts in China and Japan are organized by the JAZZ PO POLSKU Foundation within the JAZZ PO POLSKU „Around the World” project. It will take the form of an international concert tour, which is inspired by the achievements of the Polish traveler, Paweł Edmund Strzelecki, who was the first Pole to circumnavigate the world (1834-1843). As part of the project „Around the World”, Polish musicians will play over 100 concerts on 4 continents. The top of the Polish jazz and improvised scene will take part in it. The project will last three years and has already started in May this year with concerts by Michał Ciesielski and Piotr Krępeć in China.

The Mateusz Gawęda Trio’s concert tour in China and Japan is organized by the JAZZ PO POLSKU Foundation, in cooperation with the Polish Institutes in Beijing, the Polish Institute in Tokyo, the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Shanghai, the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Guangzhou, Agency for Industry Development’s Foundation and Foundation Institute of Economic Diplomacy.  Local partners are Blue Note Shanghai and Naito Planning.
