Michał Martyniuk Quartet will perform at the Java Jazz Festival 2019

Michał Martyniuk Quartet will perform at the Java Jazz Festival in Indonesia, one of the largest jazz festivals in the world. The group consists of Polish and New Zealand musicians, they will play twice in Jakarta, on the 1st of March and on the 3rd of March.

Michał Martyniuk (born in Szczecin in Poland, but has been living in New Zealand for 13 years) will perform at the Java Jazz Festival for the second time. Members of his group who will be performing this year are Michał Martyniuk – piano, Kuba Skowroński – saxophone, Cameron McArthur – double bass, Ron Samsom – drums. Martyniuk will promote his latest album “Nothing to Prove”, nominated for the Fryderyk Award 2019 in the category of the Phonographic Debut of the Year.

Michał Martyniuk is a pianist who became one of the most active creators in the New Zealand music scene. He recorded his debut album “After Ours” in 2016 with leading musicians from around Auckland. The album combines jazz with club and electronic music. Now he is promoting the next album “Nothing to Prove” released last year. Michał was accompanied by eminent, young representatives of Polish jazz with whom he has done an intensive concert tour in Poland and Ukraine. Bartek Chojnacki played the double bass, Kuba Skowroński on the saxophone, Kuba Mizeracki on the guitar, and on the drums Kuba Gudz.

During the 2019 Java Jazz Festival, the group will present the latest material for the first time on the Asian continent. The concerts are organised as part of the “Jazz Po Polsku” project- which showcases a wide spectrum of young Polish artists. The concerts of Michał Martyniuk’s group are the number 200 and 201 events of the “Jazz Po Polsku” in Asia.

Java Jazz Festival returns this year for its 15th anniversary and is one of the largest jazz festivals around the world. Last year over 100 bands performed and the music was listened to by about 50,000 people. This year concerts will take place in JiExpo Kemoyoran in Jakarta. Many different artists from around the world will perform, inter alia: Robert Glasper, Gretchen Parlato, Kneebody, Nathan East Band, Knowers, Toto, Moonchild, Louis Cole.

„Nothing to Prove” is a record kept in the acoustic jazz convention based on interesting melodies and energetic improvisations. The album has been nominated for Fryderyk Awards 2019 in the category of Phonographic Debut of the Year. In Poland, the CD has been released by the reputable record label SJ Records. It is also available as an exclusive vinyl version around the world.
