Jazz Po Polsku Live in China 2017

This year’s 2nd edition of the Jazz Po Polsku tour is coming back to China between September and October. The bands include: Rafał Sarnecki Sextet, Marek Napiórkowski Sextet, Paweł Kaczmarczyk Audiofeeling Trio, Michał Milczarek Trio and Kuba Cichocki Quartet. The project is part of the Season of Culture by the Chinese Ministry of Culture promoting collaboration between China and Central and Eastern European countries. The Polish jazzmen will give concerts in 14 Chinese cities.

The tour will last from September 13 until October 30. It will be kicked off in Xi’an by Marek Napiórkowski Sextet. The ancient capital city will host the band twice. First, in the Symphony Hall, and a day later in the Xi’an Concert Hall. Then, it is Rafał Sarnecki with the company of Bogna Kicińska on vocals and Kuba Cichocki on piano. They will be accompanied by Chinese musicians – Wang Chen Huai on double bass and Xu Zitong on drums, along with the American, Nathaniel Gao, on saxophone. This will be the 6th Sarnecki’s visit to the Central State to date.

Rafał Sarnecki will start the tour by giving lectures and concerts at the Western Academy of Beijing and DDC Club. The Sextet will also play in the JZ Club of Shaghai, in the Blank Space of Changzhou and at the Hangzhou Music Academy. Early October will see the musicians setting out to Central China’s city of Jincheng in the Shanxi Province and to Bunzhou situated in the Yellow River’s delta in the Shandong Province. The band will promote their most recent fourth studio album. The tour will also see Kuba Cichocki presenting his own piece of work to people in Beijing and Shanghai.

Then, it will be Paweł Kaczmarczyk’s Audiofeeling Trio who arrive to China. On October 13 they will accompany the Sarnecki Sextet as a warm up at China’s oldest jazz festival in Beijing: the Nine Gates Festival. The Trio will also play at the Hangzhou Vocational Academy, the Xi’an Jazz Meeting Club and the Changchun Jilin Academy of Arts.

This year’s Jazz Po Polsku tour in China will be closed by Michał Milczarek Trio (MM3). The group will give a concert on October 19 at the famous Oct-Loft Festival in Shenzhen, the very same show that hosted Pink Freud, Jazzpospolita and Imagination Quartet in the years before. Next, it is the MM3 who will present their work in clubs in Canton, Zhongshan and Zhuhai. The tour will end in Chengdu, the Sichuan capital. The musicians will give concerts and lectures at the University of Science and Technology.

The Jazz Po Polsku tour is a part of the 16+1 international project (China-CEEC – China and Central and Eastern European Countries), whose main idea is the bilateral collaboration between China and the countries from Central and Eastern Europe. The initiative also promotes The Belt and Road Initiative, which aims at creating a fast transport network connecting China with, among others, the EU countries. The year-round Season of Culture has been arranged in China in order to host numerous events, such as concerts, theatre performances, exhibitions etc. Apart from Polish groups, it will be participated by artists from 15 other European countries. September 23 will see the international Big Band CEEC, with Rafał Sarnecki included, playing in front of the ministers of culture from all the partaking countries. Meanwhile, between September 14 and 17 Jazz Po Polsku will be promoting the latest Grzegorz Karnas CD/DVD, entitled “Power Kiss” at the Chongqing Culture Industry Expo. The album was recorded as part of last year’s tour around China and published in August, 2017 by Hevhetia.

This is the 5th Jazz Po Polsku edition in China. Since 2014 the project has already organized 70 events in 15 Chinese cities. Jazz Po Polsku presents a wide spectrum of young Polish jazz musicians, helps in establishing cultural collaboration and integrates artists from many countries. In July, 2017 we saw Stanisław Słowiński Quintet taking part in the tour.

The Jazz Po Polsku Live in China 2017 tour is organized in collaboration with the Chinese Jazz Association (CJA), the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, the Polish Institute in Beijing, the Polish Consulates in Chengdu and Canton, the Plateaux Foundation and Jazz Juniors.
